In many ways the heart of the Walk of the Heroines, this steel and glass structure supports a computer terminal housing the stories and pictures of heroines. Sheltered by a floating glass roof, visitors will be able to linger at the highly interactive computer screen, accessing a rich variety of information on women’s history and contributions. Imagine the many possibilities for the Educational Kiosk:
Celebrating the memory of their grandmother, a family gathers on her birthday, finding her name on one of the naming walls and her picture and the story of her life in the kiosk.
An exhibit showcases Oregon women artists — with their works and their biographies on display in the computer terminals.
An annual “Contemporary Heroines” award acknowledges women who have made significant contributions to specific fields (e.g. public service, science, health, education, sports); their photographs and stories are entered in the kiosk.
School children trace women’s names on the walls, then look up their life narratives in the computer terminals as part of a class project.
